About David - Biography

David Morris was elected to the Legislative Assembly in November 2006, and re-elected in 2010, representing the district of Mornington, which includes the towns of Mount Eliza, Mount Martha, Moorooduc and Mornington.

David currently serves as Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government in the Baillieu Government, as a member of the Parliament's Public Accounts and Estimates Committee, as a member of the Privileges Committee of the Legislative Assembly, as an Acting Speaker and as chair of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Public Libraries.

David's Parliamentary career has also included stints as Deputy Chairman of the Drugs and Crime Prevention Committee of the Parliament (2007 - 2010), as Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government (Feb 2008 - Nov 2010)  and Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Environment (Nov 2009 - Nov 2010).

David was a Councillor of the Shire of Mornington from 1987 to 1994, and Shire President 1992-1993; a member of the Westernport Regional Planning Committee 1989 – 1994, and a member of the Peninsula Regional Library service committee from 1987 to 1995, including a number of terms as Chairman.

David’s involvement with public libraries led to his appointment to the Public Libraries Advisory Committee of the Libraries Board of Victoria, Chair of the LBV Legislation Review Group and membership of the Minister’s Library Funding Review.

He served as a Council delegate to the Metropolitan Municipal Association from 1989 to 1994 and as a member of the Executive; as Chair of the Western Port Strategy Review, as Chair of the Crib Point Terminal Consultative Committee and as Chairman or Member of a number of local Tourism bodies.

David’s connection with the Peninsula community has included service as a Board Member of Peninsula Community Health, as Treasurer of the Mornington Chamber of Commerce for five years and as Secretary and Treasurer of the Mount Eliza Community Association.

David has held many positions in the Liberal Party including President of the Mornington Branch, Chairman of both the Mornington and Dunkley Electorates and membership of  both the Transport and the Planning and Local Government Policy Committees.

He currently represents the Parliamentary Party on the State Assembly and as a member of the Party’s State Seats Committee.

Prior to his election to Parliament David had over twenty five years experience in local small business.

David is married to Linda and has three step children. When time permits he enjoys the company of family and friends, swimming, walking, and working in the garden.

In 2008 David and Linda walked the wartime Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea.
