David Morris, State Member for Mornington has expressed concern at the meagre resources provided to the Peninsula Community Health Services by the government, placing them at danger.
Speaking in Parliament this week Mr Morris sought action from the Minister for Health to ensure the Peninsula Health network is funded to provide full administrative assistance to the self-help groups associated with that organisation but particularly Peninsula Community Health Service.
“Last year the health service was forcibly merged with the Peninsula Health network. The merger proceeded despite very strong community opposition, very solid staff opposition and certainly very solid opposition from me as well. The government promised that there would be no cuts to services as a result of the merger” Mr Morris said.
“In recent weeks a self-help group which has been receiving photocopying, mailing and basic administrative support was told they would need to be self supportive and there were no longer the funds to assist them”.
“The self-help and support groups give pivotal assistance and guidance to their members and get little or very minimal support. Further cuts to funding and assistance will only serve to endanger the groups” said Mr Morris.
“I call on the Minister to hold to their commitment that there be no cuts and make good on his promises of funding to PCHS” said Mr Morris.
