Mornington State MP David Morris is encouraging community organisations to apply for funding to assist their volunteers through the Australian Government’s Volunteer Grants 2010 initiative.
Mr Morris said the grants are available to non-profit local organisations to help support their volunteers and more importantly to encourage volunteering.
“Our volunteers on the Mornington Peninsula need to be recognised for the tremendous work they do within our community”.
The Volunteer Grants initiative provides funding between $1000 and $5000 to organisations to help contribute towards:
- costs of training courses for volunteers;
- undertaking background checks for volunteers;
- purchase portable, tangible, small equipment items to help volunteers;
- fuel reimbursement for volunteers, including those who use their cars to transport others to activities, deliver food and assist people in need.
The closing date for applications is Friday 16 April 2010.
Selection criteria and application forms can be found on the FaHCSIA (Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs) website:
