Mornington State MP and Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, David Morris is encouraging women in Local Government to apply for funding for assistance to participate in senior leadership development.
Mr Morris said $20,000 has been allocated to promote leadership training for women currently in and aspiring to senior executive roles in local councils.
Currently only 15 per cent of CEO’s of local councils are women. Local Government Professionals (LGPro) research showed senior female managers are less likely to apply for a CEO role than male managers, even though the women had post graduate qualifications.
“This funding will assist women working in smaller councils with limited resources to participate in an executive leadership program, which will ultimately encourage more women to apply for senior positions”.
