Schools receiving restoration funding

27 April 2011

Benton Junior College, Kunyung Primary School, MountEliza Primary School and Osborne Primary School are set to receive a new playground or hard court reinstatement thanks to the Coalition Government’s commitment to restore play areas affected by Building the Education Revolution (BER) construction works.

Mornington MP David Morris said the four local schools were some of more than 80 schools across the state set to benefit from the Coalition Government’s decision to provide up to $5 million to reinstate playgrounds, hard courts and car parks removed or demolished as part of BER projects.

Mr Morris welcomed the Government’s decision to reinstate facilities lost at government schools during the roll-out of the BER program. The schools will receive between $10,000 to $45,000 to reinstate their hard courts or playgrounds.

“This is a win for the primary schools and the local community as playgrounds and hard courts play a vital role in student engagement, learning, social skills and physical education,”

Education Minister Martin Dixon said the Government had listened to schools and acted to reinstate these facilities.

“The Coalition Government has ensured Victorian government schools such as these receive funding to reinstate facilities they lost during the BER program,” Mr Dixon said.

“Children across the state will be able to enjoy these new play areas, which are essential for a well-rounded education.”
