Mornington MP David Morris, is joining the fight against heart disease by urging all local residents to support the Heart Foundation’s Go Red For Women campaign.
“Many Australian women believe that heart disease only affects older men, but it’s the number one killer of Australian women.”
Go Red for Women is the Heart Foundation’s campaign to raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of Australian women.
Mr Morris said The Heart Foundation will be conducting a free, ten week Health Heart Challenge to help Australian women make lifestyle changes necessary to improve their heart health and reduce their risk of developing heart disease.
Participants are asked to select one of six key goals, which are;
- Be active everyday
- Improve everyday nutrition
- Increase knowledge of heart health
- Quit smoking
- Lower high blood pressure
- Lower high cholesterol levels.
The Healthy Heart Challenge will start on 1 June 2011, as part of the launch of Go Red for Women month.
