Three multifaith groups in the Mornington Electorate will share in $17,500 funding from the Victorian Government following an announcement today from the Member for Mornington, David Morris.
Mr Morris said the funding to the Mornington Peninsula Interfaith Network, the Muslim Women’s Council of Victoria and Shiva School of Mediation and Yoga would help the faith-based and community organisations generate understanding between all faiths and build on the unity of Victorians.
The Government recently announced $365,000 in grant funding for projects which strive to promote harmony across Victoria’s culturally and religiously diverse community.
“The projects supported through this funding aim at increasing an understanding and respect for our religious diversity while breaking down stereotypes.”
The Victorian Government’s support of multi-faith and inter-faith activities in our vibrant communities means that Victoria will maintain its lead in promoting harmony and social cohesion.
“These projects will bring people together from diverse faiths to engage in dialogue with each other while developing understanding and promoting respect.”
These grants will support initiatives which foster and encourage:
- opportunities for young people from diverse faiths to come together and develop leadership skills while engaging in ongoing dialogue;
- the establishment of several new locally-based inter-faith networks; and
- community celebrations that bring together diverse faiths and the whole Victorian community.
Mr Morris said “the Coalition Government is committed to promoting harmony and social cohesion by encouraging programs and activities which bring people together.
