New Roundabout At Moorooduc Highway And Wooralla Drive Intersection To Improve Safety

David Morris MP, Member for Mornington, and Edward O’Donohue MLC, Parliamentary Secretary for Transport, announced today that construction of a roundabout at Moorooduc Highway and Wooralla Drive in Mount Eliza will be substantially completed this week.

Mr O’Donohue said the $3.56 million project replaced the existing intersection with a roundabout to help reduce the number and severity of crashes at this location.

“This work will decrease the speed of vehicles travelling on the Moorooduc Highway and entering the roundabout, therefore making it easier for vehicles turning out of Wooralla Drive to select a safe gap in the traffic,” Mr Morris said.

“In the five year period between January 2004 and December 2008 there were 17 casualty crashes. Nine of these crashes resulted in serious injuries.”

This road safety project also included additional street lighting, new guard fence, new traffic signs, pavement marking and drainage work.

The project was funded by the Transport Accident Commission and delivered by VicRoads.

Construction began in March 2011. There will be additional minor work over the next couple of weeks to finish the project.
