Pedestrian Safety Improvements To Commence At The Esplanade, Mount Martha

David Morris MP, Member for Mornington and Edward O’Donohue MLC, Parliamentary Secretary for Transport, today announced that works to improve safety for pedestrians crossing the Esplanade to access the Mount Martha foreshore will commence next month.

Mr Morris said the $232,000 project will include installation of operated signals on the Esplanade near Watsons Road to address the long-standing concerns over pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the Mount Martha Village area.

‘The project will benefit those who cross the Esplanade to access the beach, Mount Martha Lifesaving Club and Mount Martha Yacht Club, an area which gets busy during summer, including the hundreds of children who participate in the nippers program at the surf club” Mr Morris said.

In the five-year period from July 2006 to July 2011, there was one recorded casualty crash at this location. The crash occurred midweek and involved a pedestrian and a motorcyclist.
