$5,000 each for Mornington & Mt Martha Life Saving Clubs

Mornington MP David Morris congratulated the Mornington & Mount Martha Life Saving Clubs on the important work they do for their community and said he was pleased to announce $5000 each in Government funding to support the clubs.

Mr Morris expressed the importance of the work which both clubs do for the Mornington and Mount Martha beaches. “Our beaches can be very unpredictable at any given time, so teaching young people at an early age about safety at the beach is vital.”

“Mills Beach in Mornington and the Mount Martha beach are both extremely busy beaches in the summer months with not only the locals, but also holiday makers enjoying them. The presence of the lifesaving clubs on the beaches gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy the beach to the fullest”

Mr Morris said Mornington LSC and Mount Martha LSC patrolled the beaches as well as offering a range of educational/training programs.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Emergency Services Peter Ryan said Victorian Life Saving Clubs and volunteers provided an invaluable service to the community.

“Volunteer life savers help to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for swimmers and beach goers ,” Mr Ryan said.

“This funding will help to reduce the administrative burden on volunteers and will assist with the costs of club house maintenance and insurance.”

“The Coalition Government recognises the important role that Life Saving Clubs and volunteers play in protecting the lives of Victorian community.”

The $5,000 grant is from the Government’s $9.5 million budget package for Life Saving Victoria and will be provided to clubs annually over the next four years.
