Mornington MP, David Morris, has called on local anglers to tell the Andrews Government exactly what they think about its plans to ramp up the cost of recreational fishing licences.

Changes proposed by the Government would see fishing licence costs soar between 42% and 66%.

“Under the Government’s plan, the cost of a one year license will jump 42.9% from $24.50 to $35, while a three year licence will jump by almost 44%, from $66 to $95.” Mr Morris said.

“The 28 day licence will rocket from $12 to $20, a two thirds increase overnight.”
“The $6 two day licence will be scrapped and replaced by a $10 three day license.”

“The Government claim that these ridiculous increases are necessary to improve fishing facilities. The only thing this plan will do is drive people away from a sport they can no longer afford.”

“It is important that recreational fishers and the public let the Government know exactly what they think of this rip-off.” Mr Morris said.

The Government is seeking feedback until 19th April.
