Wind Farms Ban on the Mornington Peninsula

01 September 2011

Mr MORRIS (Mornington) — I rise this morning to congratulate the Minister for Planning upon the introduction of amendment VC82, the controls for wind energy facilities, or wind farms, across the state.

I particularly note the decision to prohibit the development of wind farms across the whole of the Mornington Peninsula. In doing so I do not underestimate the importance of developing renewable energy, or wind energy in particular, but I believe we need to strike a balance between the industry and the community.
In this particular case the decision will assist in the protection of the landscape values of the peninsula. It is a victory in what has been an ongoing battle.
