26 October 2011
Mr MORRIS — It was a very big weekend for Mornington, with the town celebrating its sesquicentenary with a tremendous celebration in Mornington Park last Sunday.
The day marked the declaration of the town of Mornington, which had been better known in its earlier days as Snapper Point. At the time it was truly the capital of the peninsula, housing the post office and the courthouse and of course possessing an excellent harbour.
Interestingly the first member for Mornington was elected before the town formally took the name.
I was very pleased to be invited to participate in the event and with Cr Bev Colomb to plant a tree to mark the occasion.
Congratulations to Diane White, the Mornington Historical Society and the shire for making the anniversary an event to remember.
